Erotic Massage: what the studios mean by it

In a Thai studio, an erotic massage is the trade's own name for a slow massage of the whole body, given in a private room with low light, quiet music and a shower close by. It is a different thing from a traditional Thai massage, which is given clothed on a floor mat and works through pressure and stretching, and from a hotel spa, where the menu runs to oils, scrubs and facials. The foot massage shop on the pavement sits further away still: open fronted, short sessions, feet and shoulders only.

What the studios share is the setting. The room is closed, the pace is unhurried and the attention covers the whole body rather than one tired shoulder. Beyond that, each erotic massage studio defines its offer in its own listing, using a small set of menu words that recur across the country: nuru, tantra, lingam, body to body and four hands. Those words are explained in the next section, with the studios that print them.

Two principles hold everywhere. A studio offers what it publishes, and nothing more. The therapist sets the limits of the session, and nothing is owed beyond what was agreed before it started. A courteous guest asks first rather than assuming, and accepts the answer.

Nuru, tantra, body to body and four hands

The menu words below come from the studios' own listings. A word on a menu tells you a style is offered there; the detail of a session is something you confirm with the studio.

• Nuru: a Japanese style using a smooth, warm gel, and the commonest word on Bangkok menus. Dragon Heart Bangkok, AuroraMassage, Hiso Nuru Massage and 102 Massage Bangkok list it, as do Nuru House Pattaya, Versailles Nuru Massage Pattaya and Nuru Spa Phuket.
• Tantra and lingam: slow, breath led sessions; lingam and yoni are Sanskrit words some menus use. Tantra appears at Analisa Massage, Picasso Bkk, Aya Massage Bangkok, Erotic Tantra Massage Bang Na and YoniMassageBangkok. Lingam is listed by Bangkok Erotic Massage1, Body Bliss Bangkok, Smile Bangkak and Tantra Healing Bodywork in Chiang Mai.
• Body to body: a massage given with the body as well as the hands. Listed by 101 Premier Massage, Deep Massage Bangkok, Kawaii Massage and Runjuan Outcall Massage in Phuket, among others.
• Four hands: two therapists work together in one session. Boss Massage, Sukebe Nuru Massage, Aimi Bangkok Massage and Peach Massage list it.

A handful of Bangkok listings, Absolute Bangkok Massage, Bangkok Passion Massage, Honey Bee Massage Bangkok and Erotic Massage Bangkok, name every one of these styles. If one style matters to you, pick an erotic massage studio whose menu names it, and mention it in your first message.

Bangkok studios around Nana and Asok

The lower Sukhumvit sois hold a dense cluster of studios, most within a short walk of the BTS. Opening hours below are the ones each studio publishes; where none are given, ask before you go.

In Nana, Dragon Heart Bangkok sits on the fourth floor of a building on Sukhumvit Soi 11 and keeps the longest published hours in the area, 11:00 to 03:00, with nuru and four hands on its menu. 8 Fantasy Nuru Massage on Sukhumvit 8 opens every day 11:00 to 02:00 and also comes to your hotel. BambooBKK, also on Soi 8, lists every main style and opens 10:00 to midnight. Romance Nuru Massage BKK on Soi 10 runs 12:00 to 02:00. Analisa Massage on Soi 6 opens 10:00 to 22:00 and lists tantra. 7SEVEN Spa And Massage on Soi 10, Annies Massage on Soi 7/1 and Venus Massage Bangkok on Soi 3 publish no hours.

In Asok, Aimi Bangkok Massage on Soi 18 opens 10:00 to 22:00 and Picasso Bkk on Soi 19 opens 11:00 to 23:00. Soi 20 and its lanes hold Boss Massage, Kawaii Massage, Peach Massage and Butterfly Massage, the last two coming to your hotel. Aya Massage Bangkok and Kokoro BKK sit on Soi 23, Sukebe Nuru Massage on Soi 18. For an erotic massage close to a Nana or Asok hotel, this is the shortest walk; most erotic massage rooms here are a few minutes apart.

Phrom Phong and the rest of Bangkok

Phrom Phong has more studios than any other area in the listings. Sukhumvit Soi 22 alone holds Absolute Bangkok Massage, Bangkok Bunny Massage, Bangkok Passion Massage, Cherry Massage, Classy Nuru Massage Sukhumvit 22, Erotic Massage Bangkok, Honey Bee Massage Bangkok and Paradise Massage; Bangkok Passion publishes daily hours of 11:00 to midnight. On Soi 24, Deep Massage Bangkok opens 11:00 to midnight and 102 Massage Bangkok sits near Phrom Phong BTS exit 4. 101 Premier Massage and Don Quixote Nuru Massage are on Soi 26. Soi 31 has Hiso Nuru Massage, open 09:00 to 21:00, DokiDoki Bangkok, 10:00 to 22:00, and Heaven Prime, 11:00 to 03:00 most days. Soi 33 has AuroraMassage and Hakumi Nuru Massage, both open late, plus Daisy Dream and Boss Nuru Massage 33. BKK Vice is on Soi 39.

Further east, in Thong Lo and Ekkamai, Bangkok Erotic Massage1 on Soi 63 opens 11:00 to 02:00 and Bangkok Pretty Massage on Soi 53/1 opens 10:00 to 23:00. Away from Sukhumvit, one tantra studio works in Bang Na, Memeda Nuru Massage in Huai Khwang, and Heal Nuru & Soapy Massage, a featured nuru studio on Kiattichai Alley in Din Daeng. Several listings, among them 69 Bangkok Massage, Body Bliss Bangkok, OlaOla Massage and Wonder Massage Bangkok, publish no area: ask where the erotic massage room is before you book an erotic massage there.

Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai compared

Outside Bangkok the choice is much smaller, and it helps to know that before you travel.

Pattaya has seven listings. Three sit in Central Pattaya: Nuru House Pattaya on Pattaya Third Road, open every day 12:00 to midnight with four hands on its menu, Nuru Spa Pattaya on Pattaya Sai 3 Road, and Versailles Nuru Massage Pattaya on Pattaya Sai 2 Road. Devils Den Thailand is on Soi LK Metro and also comes to your hotel. Pattaya Vice Nuru Massage publishes no area. Sensational Outcall Massage works from Jomtien and only comes to you. Ayda, an independent masseuse, lists tantra and works 10:00 to 19:00.

Phuket has four listings, three of them hotel visits around Patong. Grand Massage Phuket and Nana Massage both publish round the clock hours; Runjuan Outcall Massage works 10:00 to 23:00 and lists body to body. The one studio with a room of its own is Nuru Spa Phuket in Rawai, open 12:00 to 02:00.

Chiang Mai has a single listing, Tantra Healing Bodywork, which names tantra and lingam, publishes no hours and is reached by e-mail or its website. For an erotic massage in the north, that is the whole picture today; anyone planning an erotic massage on Koh Samui will find no studio listed yet.

Your first visit to a private studio

What follows is general practice across private studios, not a promise about any one of them. Each studio runs its own way, so its own answers come first.

Most guests arrive at a booked time. The entrance is usually discreet, a door on a soi or a floor in an office or apartment building, and a receptionist greets you and confirms the session you agreed. Payment is normally settled at the start, at the counter, in baht.

You are then shown to a private room, often with a mat or a massage table, towels and a shower. A shower first is standard in almost every erotic massage studio, for the guest and the therapist alike, and towels and toiletries are provided. A short shower after the session is usual too.

The length is whatever you booked. Studios commonly sell sessions by the hour, with longer options for slower styles such as tantra, and the clock tends to start when the massage does. An erotic massage is paced by the therapist, who also sets its limits: what was agreed at the start is what the session holds. Tipping is a personal choice, not a charge.

Erotic Massage: how to book and ask the price

Every listing shows the contact channels the studio itself publishes, and the page displays them from that data. Most Bangkok studios answer by phone and WhatsApp; Dragon Heart Bangkok, 8 Fantasy Nuru Massage, Hakumi Nuru Massage, Deep Massage Bangkok, OlaOla Massage and Wonder Massage Bangkok also list Telegram. A few are reached only in writing: YoniMassageBangkok and Tantra Healing Bodywork by e-mail and website, 69 Bangkok Massage by its website alone. Bangkok Bunny Massage lists phone, WhatsApp and e-mail but no website.

No studio in this guide publishes a price, so a figure cannot be given here. Ask the studio directly, and ask three things before you agree:

• The length of the session, and when the time starts.
• What the session includes, in the studio's own words, and which style from its menu it is.
• The total price in baht, and whether a hotel visit or a second therapist adds to it.

For a hotel visit, confirm that your hotel allows visitors and give the studio your hotel name. A clear message in plain English is answered faster than a vague one. Booking an erotic massage this way means both sides know the terms before the door closes, which is how every erotic massage studio prefers to work.
